Meet the 2025 YCA Finalists: String Players & Ensembles to Watch! (2025)

Get ready for an exciting musical journey as we dive into the world of the 2025 Young Concert Artists (YCA) Susan Wadsworth International Auditions! The stage is set, and the talent is exceptional.

This year's finalists showcase an incredible range of string players and ensembles, ready to captivate audiences and leave a lasting impression. Among the twelve finalists, four solo string players and four ensembles featuring string players are ready to take center stage. Let's meet them!

The violinists, Christina Nam, Hannah Tam, and Claire Wells, will grace us with their elegant and expressive performances. Joining them is violist Samuel Rosenthal, whose rich and soulful tones will undoubtedly leave a mark.

Now, here's where it gets even more exciting! We have three exceptional ensembles: Trio Azura, Eris Trio, and Erinys String Quartet. These groups bring a unique dynamic to the stage, blending individual talents to create harmonious and captivating musical experiences.

And let's not forget the piano-violin duo, Jiusi Zhang and Ray Ushikubo, who will undoubtedly enchant us with their exquisite collaboration.

But wait, there's more! The other finalists include pianist Elias Ackerley, clarinetist Elad Navon, flautist Nikka Gershman, and saxophonist Estel Vivo Casanovas. Each of these artists brings their own distinct style and expertise to the competition.

These finalists are not just competing for recognition; they are battling for the chance to join the prestigious YCA Roster as soloists or, in a groundbreaking new offering, as YCA's very first Ensemble-in-Residence.

The YCA Jacobs Fellowship is an incredible opportunity, offering a comprehensive support system and a plethora of benefits. From artist management to global performance opportunities, mentorship, and training in education and community engagement, the winners will receive a holistic approach to their artistic development.

And this is the part most people miss: for the first time, the jury will select up to three laureates to receive career development grants of $5,000 each and an invitation to compete in future audition cycles. Talk about an incredible boost to their musical careers!

The jury, led by YCA President Daniel Kellogg, includes an impressive lineup of music industry experts: Susan Wadsworth, the founder of YCA; pianist Anne-Marie McDermott; Pat Winter, former senior vice president of Opus 3 Artists; violinist Chee-Yun; conductor and flutist Ransom Wilson; cellist Alban Gerhardt; violist Nokuthula Ngwenyama; and Ken Noda, musical advisor for the Metropolitan Opera's Lindemann Young Artist Development Program.

So, music lovers, what are your thoughts on these talented finalists? Who do you think will shine the brightest and secure their place in the YCA Roster?
