Kenya mourns the loss of Isiolo South MP Bidu Mohamed, a dedicated public servant and legislator. The National Assembly Speaker, Moses Wetang'ula, announced his passing on Tuesday evening, expressing profound sorrow over the death of the first-term Jubilee Party member. Bidu's death occurred while receiving treatment at the Nairobi Hospital, with details of his illness remaining unclear as the family awaits an official statement.
Before his parliamentary career, Bidu served as the inaugural Speaker of the Isiolo County Assembly from 2013 to 2017, laying the groundwork for county legislation and oversight. He was a member of the Departmental Committee on Environment, Forestry, and Mining, and the Public Petitions Committee, where his commitment to environmental conservation and community development was recognized.
Speaker Wetang'ula praised Bidu's dedication as a public servant, highlighting his positive impact on national development. Bidu's extensive background in wildlife conservation and public administration, spanning Isiolo, Narok, and Samburu counties, further underscores his contributions. From 1993 to 1996, he served as Acting Warden-in-Charge at the Isiolo County Council, rising to become Chief Game Warden at Isiolo Parks (2004-2008) and later at the Maasai Mara National Reserve and Samburu Park.
Educationally, Bidu began at Isiolo Secondary School, completing his O-Level studies in 1975. He later earned a Diploma in Wildlife Management from the College of African Wildlife Management in Moshi, Tanzania (1999-2001), and a Bachelor of Arts in Community Development from Gretsa University (2015-2018).
As the nation grieves, Speaker Wetang'ula announced that the burial arrangements will be communicated in due course, inviting the public to remember Bidu's remarkable service and positive impact on the nation.
